Who's Going To Direct Wolverine 2?

All though the Wolverine film was an entertaining mess of a movie I still think a Wolverine 2 is a good idea.  Let's just hope they get something right this time story wise.  But whose going to direct it?  According to deadline.com, Darren Aronofsky as one of two contenders to take the helm of  X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2. The other contender is one David Slade (of 30 Days of Night and Twilight Saga: Eclipse fame).
Aronofsky has reportedly been in conversations with Jackman, who he previously developed The Fountain with. Although he's not a bankable director for the studio to put on a big tentpole movie. Fox gambled on art-house director Gavin Hood for the first one and the results weren't so good. On the other hand if producer/star Jackman wants Aronofsky, he'll probably get him.  Deadline speculates that Slade is the more likely candidate given the blockbuster success of the Twilight movie.

The DVD Update

There's not a whole lot to update this week in the world of DVD.  Nothing spectacular hitting stores tomorrow but on October 26th the Back To The Future Trilogy hits Blu-Ray so check out the trailer below.  Also on November 2nd Highlander and Highlander 2 hit Blu-Ray, check out the box art below!

There Can Be Only One!
Ah crap they made a second one!

Xbox Raises Prices! Consumers Should Say No!

As of November 1, users of Xbox Live Gold will be paying more for the online service. The price of Gold in the U.S. is going from $7.99 a month to $9.99 a month. Three-month buys will go from $19.99 to $24.99, and if you buy your Xbox Live by the year, you'll be paying $59.99 instead of $49.99 annually.  What a rip I say?!! For something that was suppose to go free when the 360 came out they raise the price?  You have to pay for XBox live gold so that you can play games online with friends.  Ok that I get I suppose.  But why is Netflix part of the pay service when people already have to pay to use Netflix itself?  Or why is Facebook and Twitter part of the premium service?  I can use these for free on my computer and why the hell would I want to use them on the XBox with the interface keyboard that is slower than a Grandma having her monthly consititution.  I'll tell you why?  So that they can pay for the deal they made with ESPN to bring content to XBL starting in November when the Kinect comes out.  Microsoft, who has more money than the entire population of Xbox players, is making us pay for their deal with ESPN.
An Xbox employee says, “When originally launched in 2002, a Gold subscription cost the same as an AAA video game, $49.99. When taking into account for inflation ($50 in 2002 is roughly $60 in 2010) and the additional services available to Gold subscribers in 2010, such as ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm and Video Kinect, a $10 price increase still represents an incredible value to consumers.”
Incredible value?  That's how they justify it?  The richest company in the whole bloody world.  What the hell? I say screw Xbox and everyone go silver.  You can play Madden 11 just as well by yourself as you can with a guy who calls you a weenie head every time you throw 50 yards on his punk self!  Are you really going to be upset because you blew up that dude on Modern Warfare with a sticky bomb that probably made the youngster crap his pants because it was so awesome, that he had a nerdgasm.  No you probably won't be so don't let the all mighty Microsoft do this to us.  Go silver everyone and go back to playing games the old school way.  By yourself or invite people over!  There's a concept! (There's a uncensored version of this rant at my personal daily news blog here)

Batman! Batmen? Batman Incorporated!

Something is stirring in Gotham City these days.  If you have been keeping up with DC Comics Batman titles, you know that Bruce Wayne has been missing and that former Robin turned Nightwing, Dick Grayson has donned the cape and cowl and taken the mantle of Batman,  Batman's son Damian is now Robin the Boy Wonder. With Bruce Wayne on his way back through time to present day, he will again be taking up the mantle but this time he will have help.  There will be not one Batman in Gotham but two!  When Bruce returns he will wear the costume but so will Dick Grayson!  What you say?  After the everything that has happened to Bruce Wayne int he last few years he decides that one Batman just isn't enough and possibly two won't be either!      DC publisher Dan DiDio said "Bruce Wayne realizes that he can't just be the grim avenger he was before," DiDio said. "He wants to be more aggressive in his reach, and realizes the change that Batman as a symbol can effect around the world."
In the new title, "Batman Inc.," Wayne does what any billionaire would: build a Starbucks-style franchise of Dark Knights.
"Without giving too much away here, we wanted to show how Batman can have a global influence," he said.

To avoid confusion between the two Batmen, Grayson's costume features just the black bat logo, whereas Wayne's will include the black bat over a yellow moon.
As for Grayson, the Boy Wonder is now all grown up, DiDio said.
"Grayson's role really is the protector of Gotham City," he said. "But we thought it only made sense for Bruce Wayne, a billionaire, to take a more global view."
Bruce Returns!
Starting in November, DETECTIVE COMICS, BATMAN and BATMAN AND ROBIN will feature the ongoing adventures of Dick Grayson as Batman, with Damian as Robin. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne will take center stage in the pages of Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette’s BATMAN INC. and writer/artist David Finch’s BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT.
So DC is banking on their flagship character with five titles and expecting the buying public to keep up with it all.  It's a risky gamble but with Morrison at the helm directing the traffic of it all, it should be a wild and fun ride!  I'm not totally sure on the idea of Batman "franchising" out the mantle around the world but I'm willing to see where it goes.  Will Bruce and Dick's personalities clash?  What about the hot headed Damian who was suppose to die in the current story line until he became a fan favorite?  How will the Joker, Penguin, and Two-Face react to this when they find out?All will be revealed in the coming months in DC Comics! Who Is Machete?

These new TV spots might just give you the answer!  I'm amazed we are actually seeing this movie made.  Don't get me wrong, Danny Trejo deserves it and it looks like it's going to be insane fun.  But Robert Rodriguez seems to talk movies up and they never happen so anytime one actually gets made it's an accomplishment.  Now will he ever make Sin City 2?

Machete hits theaters this Friday!

Red Dead Redemption DLC Pack "Liars and Cheats"

Rockstar today announced that the Liars and Cheats pack will mount up on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network on September 21. Further, the content pack will come bundled with the previously announced Free Roam pack, which adds new Free Roam challenges, posse scoring/leaderboards, seven new gang hideouts, and four fresh hunting grounds.
The Liars and Cheats Pack (800 MS points, or $9.99) adds goods for the title's single- and multiplayer components. The content brings new multiplayer horse races with mounted combat, an attack-and-defend multiplayer mode called Stronghold, 15 new multiplayer characters, and multiplayer versions of Liars Dice and poker. The Liars and Cheats Pack also adds the explosive rifle, which can be used in both single- and multiplayer.
Rockstar had originally planned to release the Free Roam pack as a free download, but due to "platform networks’ restrictions on numbers of free packs [Rockstar] can give away," the developer said it was forced to bundle it with the Liars and Cheats pack.
Looking ahead, Rockstar plans to release the Undead Nightmare Pack "later this fall." The pack adds an entirely new single-player campaign that follows protagonist John Marston and his attempt to find a cure for an infectious zombie outbreak. Additionally, the Undead Nightmare Pack adds new gameplay mechanics, weapons, zombie animals, mythical creatures, a new location, and fresh multiplayer modes (Source: videogames.com)

Singer Talks About X-Men: First Class

Amongst Green Lantern, Captain America, Thor, and Transformers 3, people almost forget that there's a new X-Men movie coming next year also called X-Men: First Class.  I just can't find myself getting excited for this film.  Matthew Vaughn is directing and while he did an ok job with Kick-Ass I just don't see him doing a huge awesome X-Men flick.  I liked the original X-Men Trilogy and would rather be seeing a part 4 rather than a reboot but it's what we are getting.  Producer Bryan Singer spoke with Ain't It Cool News recently and revealed a few cool details on the flick.

  • The movie is set in the 1960s, and invokes John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.

  • It will detail the first meeting between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender).

  • Xavier is not yet in a wheelchair (although we'll see how he gets there) and has a full head of hair.

  • The movie is not based at all on the X-Men: First Class comics. Jean Grey and Scott Summers are not in the movie.

  • Look for 1960s James Bond-inspired technology.

  • The Hellfire Club is definitely a part of the storyline. Kevin Bacon is, in fact, playing Sebastian Shaw and January Jones' Emma Frost is part of The Club. Singer thinks the trappings of the club are perfectly suited to the 1960s setting.

  • The cast list found on IMDB is correct with the exception of Rosamund Pike.

  • The movie will be set in numerous locations around the world, giving it a more international flavor.

  • Costumes will be more like the comics than previous X-Men movies were and fans will get a first look in a month or so.

  • There are additional characters in the movie that have yet to be leaked.
The film starts shooting next week for a May release.  That means they are filming a big budget X-Men film in 8 months.  Post production and everything.  The bets start now for how much it's going to suck.

Ah Shiz, Minority Report Is Real!

Minority Report is real!! Well sorta.  This Yahoo article talks about a city in which they are fixing to do a test run on iris scanners throughout the city.  The following is excerpted from the article:

Biometrics R&D firm Global Rainmakers Inc. (GRI) announced today that it is rolling out its iris scanning technology to create what it calls "the most secure city in the world." In a partnership with Leon -- one of the largest cities in Mexico, with a population of more than a million -- GRI will fill the city with eye-scanners. That will help law enforcement revolutionize the way we live -- not to mention marketers.
"In the future, whether it's entering your home, opening your car, entering your workspace, getting a pharmacy prescription refilled, or having your medical records pulled up, everything will come off that unique key that is your iris," says Jeff Carter, CDO of Global Rainmakers.

Leon is the first step. To implement the system, the city is creating a database of irises. Criminals will automatically be enrolled, their irises scanned once convicted. Law-abiding citizens will have the option to opt-in.
When these residents catch a train or bus, or take out money from an ATM, they will scan their irises, rather than swiping a metro or bank card. Police officers will monitor these scans and track the movements of watch-listed individuals. "Fraud, which is a $50 billion problem, will be completely eradicated," says Carter. Not even the "dead eyeballs" seen in Minority Report could trick the system, he says. "If you've been convicted of a crime, in essence, this will act as a digital scarlet letter. If you're a known shoplifter, for example, you won't be able to go into a store without being flagged. For others, boarding a plane will be impossible."

GRI's scanning devices are currently shipping to the city, where integration will begin with law enforcement facilities, security check-points, police stations, and detention areas. This first phase will cost less than $5 million. Phase II, which will roll out in the next three years, will focus more on commercial enterprises. Scanners will be placed in mass transit, medical centers and banks, among other public and private locations.

This vision of the future eerily matches Minority Report, and GRI knows it. "Minority Report is one possible outcome," admits Carter. "I don't think that's our company's aim, but I think what we're going to see is an environment well beyond what you see in that movie--minus the precogs, of course."

GRI also predicts that iris scanners will help marketers. "Digital signage," for example, could enable advertisers to track behavior and emotion. "In ten years, you may just have one sensor that is literally able to identify hundreds of people in motion at a distance and determine their geo-location and their intent--you'll be able to see how many eyeballs looked at a billboard," Carter says.

So kinda cool stuff but scary too!  Check out the whole article here and see the short vid below for a look at the scanner and get ready to have your eyeballs zapped everywhere in a few years!

Blackstar Warrior, You Dig!

Just watch the trailer that's all I can say.  But I dig and it's funny to boot!  Also brought to me by Alan.

Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury........Say What?

This was brought to my attention by Alan and well, I'm not sure why it's funny, or why it's such a you tube phenomenon of over 300,000 hits but it is.  The song is even available on I-tunes now.  I'm not even sure what it has to do with Comicpalooza but it is a tribute of sorts to a very famous sci fi writer. Ray Bradbury of course wrote Farenheit 451 amongst many other books.

This is for mature viewers so you will have to click the link below to watch it! It stars Rachel Bloom as the chick who wants to get down with Bradbury and features a lot of hot school girls.......maybe that's why it's popular?  Nahhhhh can't be!

The Force Is With These Deleted Scenes

As the internet has been stirring about the Star Wars Blu-Ray announcement and fan boys every where are drooling on their keyboards over the missing Jedi scene that hit the net, it made me start thinking what else we might see on these discs when they are released next fall.  Personally I'd like to see everything we can get but when it comes to deleted scenes, at least we may get some of the most famous ones on the extra features discs that have just been seen as still photos all these years or on the Behind The Magic CD-ROM.  Here's just a few I hope make the cut:

Luke Watching Space Battle And The Biggs Scene

Star Wars most famous deleted scenes include Luke looking into space and seeing the battle would be a cool scene to have and it adds to the young farm boy who seeks to be a space pilot attitude of Luke as he longs to be up there in space doing what he is watching.  The Biggs scene just makes sense to include since it's one of the most famous cut scenes of the trilogy with people swearing they saw the scene in an original cut, but no they didn't.  They saw it in the story books and other Star Wars books of the time!

The Wampa Attack & C3PO & Artoo's Wampa Plan

Empire Strikes Back's most famous deleted scene includes Wampa's getting loose during the battle of Hoth and attacking Rebel and Imperial troopers.  C3PO and Artoo even have a master plan of pulling the warning sign off the door so that the Imperial troops go in the door and get attacked by the creatures!  Portions of this scene were shown in early Empire movie trailers!

The Tattoine Sandstorm

Return Of The Jedi's most famous deleted scene other than the one that recently set the internet on fire, is the sandstorm!  This scene took place after the rescue of Han Solo as they get back to the Millenium FAlcon and part ways for the rendezvous later. There was even a Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca  figures released recently based on the deleted scene!

SW: The Force Unleashed Web Doc #2

Lucasarts has been releasing a series of Web Docs leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.  Check out the new web doc below as well as the original web doc also.

The DVD Update

Welcome to the first mini feature at the brand new Comicpalooza blog.  From time to time we will have a look at some upcoming DVD/Blu Ray releases to keep you all up to date in what's coming out in the world of Home Theater.  And if anyone has an idea for a snazzy title for this feature send it my way!!

GrindHouse
Releases On 2 Disc Blu-Ray Edition 10/5/10

Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarentino's double feature finally comes to blu-ray and all in one set.  These are the theatrical versions only however but all the fake trailers are there so that you can have the grind house experience on your homne theater!  The two movies are of course Planet Terror from Rodriguez and Death Proof from Tarentino.  The disc hits retailers on October 5th.

Jonah Hex
Releases On Blu-Ray/DVD 10/12/10

I didn't see this but I heard it wasn't very good.  It streets October 12th and features. Extras include a few featurettes and deleted scenes.  It will also be available iwth the standard digital copy in a 2 disc edition.

Toy Story 3
Releases On Blu-Ray Combo Pack/2 Disc Blu-Ray/DVD 11/2/10

The #1 animated film of all time hits Blu-Ray and DVD on November 2nd.  This amazing finale to the trilogy features the usual tons of extras you would expect from a Disney release and all in pristine high definition.

The Last Of The Mohicans
Releases On Blu-Ray 10/5/10

One of my all time favorite films hits on October 5th in high definition.  It's a good thing because the DVD that has been out there for years was never updated once and is just simply not a good transfer of the film.  This will be the director's cut which I find to be better and will feature a couple of making of featurettes and more!
